Kenya has been plunged into a couple of power outages in the past, the most recent one being on 11 January 2022. Kenya Power said the power outage was as a result of collapse of the towers that support a high voltage power line connecting Nairobi to the Kiambere hydroelectric dam.
Kenya Power, which has 6.4 million customers connected to its grid, gets 60 percent of its revenues from industrial consumers in Nairobi and the neighboring town of Thika. The frequency and severity of outages in Kenya has risen over the years, many Kenyans have resulted to running stand-by generators to cope with supply interruptions, adding to their costs.
