The Rothschild giraffe, also known as the Baringo giraffe is a subspecies of the Northern giraffe. It was named after Lionel Walter Rothschild, a British zoologist, who first described the subspecies in the late 1800s.
The Rothschild giraffe is one of the tallest the giraffe’s subspecies, growing up to 6m tall. There are currently nine recognized giraffe sub-species. The Rothschild giraffe was declared “Endangered” by IUCN (the International Union for the Conservation of Nature), in the year 2010.
